Meeting coming up ! ! !

Sorry guys, we've been rather quiet for the past few weeks due to tonne loads of homework and endless tests & midterms.

I hope that you guys are all coping well with your respective timetables and are fitting in rather well with your lectures and tutorials.

Well, it is time for another English Language Society Meeting again. Be sure to come as you guys will be having a Fundraising ; with a junior committee being set up in the coming meeting for this particular event. The seniors will be guiding you all the way from the preparation of a proposal, to the finding of food suppliers until the actual week when you sell the items.

Last year, we had a total of 3 fundraisings under ELS. We sold J Co doughnuts, Domino's Pizza, Chewy Junior Cream Puff, and John King egg tarts. It was a great experience of working together and raising funds for the society all at the same time.

DAY : MONDAY
DATE : 13 JULY 2009
TIME : 5 PM
VENUE : READING ROOM
(ABOVE CANTEEN 2)
Bear in mind, the participation for this event is crucial for those interested in becoming the ELS Junior Exco. :)

Convocation Day

The seniors will be graduating on the 20th of June 2009 (last year's diploma students) and our society will be setting up a booth to sell flowers during their convocation day. We urge fellow ELS members to volunteer and help out to sell the flowers on that particular day.

Date : 20th June 2009

Time : 7am-3pm

Venue : Canteen 2 Foyer

We will gladly appreciate it if you could help us out on that day particularly for those who are staying put in kl for the weekends. Besides gaining some experience in fundraising, this activity will be able to foster good relationships amongst the members.

Note: You dont have to be there for the entire day, you can choose between the morning or the afternoon shift. Do leave a message confirming your attendance or text us ).

Thanks.

Clarifying your doubts

Hello again. :) I believe that all of you have signed up for a couple of societies or one at least after our society day yesterday. Overwhelmed by the numerous clubs/societies that we have here in Tarc?

Well, its alright to join a few societies as most societies's timing do not clash. Hmm.. there are a couple of societies that are real active throughout the semester/year - eg: Community Sociology and First Aid Unit. So be sure to manage your time properly and don't get yourself to bogged down by all this until your studies get affected.

I believe there are some questions regarding the participation of this society or whatsoever that may arise. Do feel free to leave a comment or two at this particular post. As for now, I'll answer some of those doubts that have been posted to me.

  • 2 credit hours

- You can only claim the 2 credit hours if you become our Junior Exco Member which also means sub-committee in simpler terms. By being our Junior Exco, we will train you up to become our main committee and to take of the leadership position when we(the current committee) retires.

- In the event that you do not become our Junior Exco member, you do not have to worry about not being able to claim the 2 credit hours as all schools (SBS,SOT,SSH,SAS) require that their students join a sports activity (badminton, squash, basketball, netball, dancing, swimming, tennis, table tennis & etc. ) either this semester or in the 2nd semester. This is compulsory, so your 2 credit hrs can be claim through this. But there are a few societies that enable you to automatically claim the 2 credit hours without joining a sport. Eg: First Aid Unit. For more information on this, you can refer to the SAD when you have been informed by your respective schools to signed in & book your timing of your sports activity through the intranet (Tarc website)

  • If I can't claim my 2 credit hours here, then what is the point of joining the ELS?

- Well, to have a taste of a well balanced college life, joining a society is important as this is the place where you will build up your social skills, learn new skills, build team work and extend your circle of friends. One thing for sure, in your leaving transcript/ testimonial, it will have a record of all the activities that you join in college to help you build up your profile. :)

  • Interview for being the Junior Exco Member

- We have not decided on the date so don't be too anxious about this as we will announce it on this blog once it has been confirmed.

  • Will joining ELS will disrupt my studies?

- I can assure you it WILL NOT. As most of us are very conscious about being in top form in our studies and doing well in our examinations is a MUST. Don't worry as we will not have activities when courseworks/midterm and final examinations are around the corner. But do inform us when you can't make it for certain activities as we expect full participation from our members.

  • How frequent are our meetings?

- Not every week thats for sure. Attending this society will not be taxing for all of you as we understand that everyone is busy in their respective course. Organizing meetings frequently will be difficult as we cannot gather all students together most of the time as everyone's timetable varies. Meetings are usually during the weekdays unless it is some workshop that requires you to come on a Saturday. But don't worry, it would only take up very few of your Saturdays.

I hope this clears some of your doubts. Any more questions, do post it up here in the comment part. Thanks.
